This is a redesign for the fantasy adventure novel series "The Secret Series," suitable for ages 8-12. It is a 3-book box set featuring the first three books of the series. The series follows the thrilling and mysterious escapades of a group of children who stumble upon a hidden world of secrets, codes, and ancient mysteries.

Growing up, I hated reading. It was hard for me to get interested in a book, especially when it didn’t have images. They say don’t judge a book by its cover, but come on, that’s what all kids do. There was one book series that always kept me engaged despite there being no images throughout the whole novel. Each chapter was mysterious and left me wanting more, and that was The Secret Series.

Box Set Design

When designing the outside of the box set, I wanted the books to be held in something that was important to the story. One of the main characters, Cassandra (Cass for short), always kept a backpack full of the most important things that the characters would need on their secret journeys. This included survival gear such as a flashlight and rope, but I thought it would be clever to include the books themselves!

Turning the backpack into a cover meant I needed to be creative with the typography. I decided to go with a font that felt more like stitching on a bag and included a survival pin to reflect Cassandra's survivalist nature.
