2023

This project is a reanimated interpretation of the BoJack Horseman TV show opening, designed to visually depict BoJack’s struggle with mental health and his descent into deep depression. Through a blend of surreal and symbolic animation, the sequence takes on a darker, more chaotic tone that mirrors his internal turmoil. Vibrant colors fade into muted tones, environments distort, and memories blur as he spirals further into isolation. The reanimation emphasizes themes of alcoholism, drug abuse, and the crushing weight of his past, offering a haunting visual representation of depression through the lens of one of television’s most complex characters.

Storyboard & Animatic

The storyboard and animatic map out the reanimated BoJack Horseman opening, visually capturing his downward spiral. The sequence starts with a spilling bottle, symbolizing his struggle with alcoholism. As he falls, pills float around him, representing his drug abuse and self-destructive tendencies. Toward the end, the animation becomes more abstract, with kaleidoscope-like images of Princess Carolyn and Mr. Peanutbutter—two key figures in his life—showing how his relationships distort as he sinks deeper into depression. The animatic helps bring these elements together, setting the pacing, transitions, and overall mood to ensure the final animation delivers its full emotional impact.
